Buddha - Stand by Me - Ben E. King - Playing for Change

Whilst looking for Buddhist songs for this blog I came across an old favourite - Stand by Me - by the inspirational (originally) street musicians of Playing for Change - a multi-handed rendition from around the world of the Ben E. King classic Stand by Me. It got me thinking of the message of the Buddha and how once we emabrk ourselves on the path of personal responsibility and personal liberation and open our hearts every moment counts and we learn to Stand by Ourselves and it is the message of the Buddha that is standing by us and is our refuge. A bit of a long way round to say I just love this song and was fortunate to see these guys live at Glastonbury 2 years ago where they moved me to muteness and tears.

“The whole secret of existence is to have no fear. Never fear what will become of you, depend on no one. Only the moment you reject all help are you freed. Buddha
